The Opportunity 

Here at RS, we have a fantastic Commercial Leadership opportunity to lead the development of our Value-Added Solutions function.  The Head of Value-Added Solutions is a critical role within the UK Sales structure, responsible for driving commercial strategy, accelerating revenue growth, and developing strong customer partnerships across all sectors. 

 

Working in partnership with the Heads of Corporate, Internal and Field Sales teams, this role provides strategic leadership to the Business Development Managers within the Value-Added Solutions sales team, ensuring the delivery of profitable sales performance, market expansion, and exceptional customer experience.

 

A highly collaborative position, you will work closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Product and EMEA functions to deliver a compelling end to end offering, as well as partnering across the Sales leadership team to develop our services opportunities and further our customer service offering. 

 

What you will be doing

Sales Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the Value-Added sales strategy to achieve revenue, margin, and growth targets.
  • Lead, inspire, and coach a high‑performing sales team, setting clear objectives and KPIs.
  • Analyse market trends, competitor activity, and customer insights to identify new business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline across existing and emerging sectors.

Customer & Market Development

  • Foster strong, long-term relationships with key customers, industry partners, and distributors.
  • Position the organisation as a trusted advisor through solution-based selling and sector expertise.
  • Represent the business at industry events, exhibitions, and customer forums.
  • Have a genuine interest in, and be empathetic towards, the customer’s needs, challenges and objectives

Commercial Management

  • Collaborate with Finance to develop accurate budgets, forecasts, and performance reporting.

Team Development

  • Recruit, onboard, and continually develop sales talent.
  • Create a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Deliver regular training and development to enhance product knowledge and sales skills.

Operational Excellence

  • Implement sales & Solution processes, tools, and performance dashboards to drive efficiency and insights.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, certifications, and industry regulations.
  • Work closely with Marketing to ensure strong brand representation and effective go‑to‑market strategies

 

What you will bring 

  • A background of excelling in senior sales leadership
  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering sustained revenue and margin growth.
  • Deep understanding of Value-Added solutions, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data to drive strategy.
  • Experience leading and developing geographically dispersed sales teams.
  • Demonstrate an experience of working with or supporting an industrial maintenance strategy, a MRO procurement strategy, eProcurement, or managed inventory solutions.
  • Demonstrate an ability to matrix manage across multiple stakeholders to deliver exceptional results.
  • Demonstrate experience of success through applying a consultative solution-based sales technique

 

What would make you stand out

  • Continuous Improvement qualifications and / or experience.
  • Experience of working in a B2B environment such as industry, industrial distribution, logistics or business services sector, especially if in a value selling environment.
  • Business process mapping and optimisation.
  • Capability in business planning and project management.
