Interview Process

Welcome to our interview process! Our interviews are designed to be fair and informative, focusing on the skills and behaviours crucial for the job.

Before your interview, where possible, we'll endeavour to provide you with details about the specific areas we'll be discussing. This will help you prepare and understand what we consider important for the role.

For most of our job openings, an interview is part of the process. It's an excellent opportunity for us to learn more about you, and for you to meet your potential colleagues. Additionally, it's a chance for you to ask any questions you may have.

Take a look at the interview invitation and attached documents for any preparation guidelines. If there's anything you need to get ready beforehand, we'll make sure to let you know. You'll also find contact information for someone who can assist you with any queries. Feel free to reach out if there's anything you're unsure about or anything you want to share with us that will help you during the interview – we're here to help!

We want each candidate to have every opportunity to shine and highlight their talents – please let us know if there’s anything we can do to make sure the assessment process works for you.

Preparing for your interview

Highlight your best qualities by reflecting on past experiences, focusing on instances where your skills shone, not necessarily the biggest projects.

Structure your response.

  • Use the STAR technique (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses. It's simple and effective.
  • Make examples transferable to the job; for instance, if the role involves presentations, share a verbal communication example.

Think about how you may explain your answer.

  • Simplify technical projects when explaining. Practice with a friend to ensure clarity, and welcome honest feedback on your communication style.
  • Sometimes the small bits matter.
  • Don't forget the little things that contribute to success; colleagues might recall details you’ve overlooked.

Relax and take your time.

  • Take your time during the interview; it's not a race. Feel free to pause, think, or ask for clarification.

And remember, we’re rooting for you!

  • Remember, we're here to learn about you. Relax, and know that we want to give everyone an equal chance to showcase their skills.

What to wear?

At RS, most people wear smart casual except in our Distribution Centres, which are subject to Health & Safety guidelines. However, interviewees usually dress in business-wear. A good example of this is a shirt with smart trousers/skirt or suit and smart shoes.

When will I hear back?

We understand your eagerness to know the interview outcome. We'll strive to provide an update promptly. In case of significant delays, we'll keep you informed.
