Senior Manufacturing Buyer

 

UK/ remote

The purpose of the Senior Manufacturing Buyer role is to manage the procurement and inventory levels of component purchases for specific vendors associated with OKdo’s Manufacturing Services Division. The candidate will negotiate and manage component and supplier contracts to ensure the right balance between costs, quality, the schedule, and the relationship are handled well. The candidate will work with the rest of the operations team to ensure manufacturing lead times are met with component supply chain deliveries, as well as managing an ongoing BOM optimisation and strategic sourcing program.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Accountable for key procurement decisions around the BOM of a manufactured product (e.g., direct or turnkey, which could change over time)
  • Developing and Implementing the Business commodity strategy, alongside our CEM partners and monitor the progress to ensure cost down targets are achieved
  • Responsible for strategic contract negotiations with key component suppliers, alongside our legal department, negotiating direct or in-direct supply chain of goods (value >£20M)
  • Working with CEM, OKdo technology team and customer to find potential new suppliers of key components to ensure maximum flexibility of cost and lead time, issuing tenders and managing new contracts with the legal team where required
  • Developing and issuing Request for quotation and make detailed evaluations of quotations from suppliers
  • Identifying the areas of non-compliance between submitted quotations and drawings/specifications
  • Reviewing engineering drawings to closely monitor any design changes and ensure that suppliers are fully aware of these changes in time and log/record all cost implications where applicable
  • Managing project processes including Production part approval process, delivery of trial parts, packing approval, ramp-up stock levels and hand-over
  • Managing POs of components through OKdo’s ERP (NetSuite), including costs, lead times and scheduling out where needed
  • Ensuring component orders are placed on time with adequate safety stocks in place (buffer agreements or in-house held), to support the manufacturing plan
  • Working with both the CEM and OKdo’s customers to ensure we have an ongoing program of BOM optimisation, including alternative component parts approved to ensure maximum flexibility of cost and lead time, providing monthly analysis of opportunities and risk as part of the S&Op process
  • Working with the CEM and the Manufacturing Program Manager, creating, and managing a master production schedule (MPS) which includes information of key component inbound, supplier lead times, capacities, and ongoing firm/forecast production orders for planning purposes
  • Key interface of component supplier base to OKdo, managing their ongoing delivery performance to set SLAs (as set out in the contract) and chairing QBRs
  • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships and suppliers are align with the OKdo culture
  • Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organisation
  • Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers
  • Prepare reports and updates as and when required.

 

About you:

Essential:

  • Alignment to the OKdo culture and someone who can contribute positively to it
  • Relevant manufacturing or engineering education or experience in similar role, preferably from a manufacturing, CEM/EMS buying role previously
  • Previous experience of NPI procurement management in electronic manufacturing company or electronic component sourcing
  • Understanding, knowledge, and interest of electronic components, experience working directly with semiconductor companies
  • Demonstrates awareness of market dynamics (geo-political, macro-economic and pandemic influences) in component supply chains
  • Highly disciplined approach to program execution
  • Good knowledge of purchasing, negotiation, commercial understanding, and cost breakdown
  • Experience of working closely with suppliers to drive results
  • Able to add value, reduce costs and input to business improvements
  • Demonstrable ability to work under pressure; self-motivated with ability to be a team player
  • A collaborative team player across a business with fast moving, customer driven markets
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, large data sets, automation)
  • Highly numerical & analytical
  • Ability to communicate and explain technical information to non-technical colleagues to bridge understanding
  • Understands the needs of our target customers
  • Positive can-do attitude, takes ownership and very results oriented
  • Good influencing skills
  • Supply Chain, Logistics, and inventory control knowledge
  • Operational problem solver and good process management capability

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Net Suite ERP system
  • Ability to operate in a second language
  • Able to read technical/ electrical drawings
