RS is hiring a permanent Environment Manager to lead the strategic management and coordination of its global pre-production testing environments. Reporting to the Global Test Director, this key role ensures the availability, performance, and scheduling of RS Group’s two production-like test environments (Static 1 & 2), which support functional and non-functional testing across SAP, Digital, Middleware, and Supply Chain platforms. The Environment Manager will play a crucial role in environment readiness for project delivery and Go-Live, while driving best practices in tooling, automation, and system reliability.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own and manage the scheduling, currency, and technical health of RS Group’s test environments.
  • Act as the key liaison between testing teams, technology leads, and project stakeholders to optimise environment usage and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Partner with Heads of SAP, Functional, Digital, and Non-Functional Testing to deliver seamless end-to-end testing experiences across the group.
  • Establish strong partnerships with the OCIO, architects, business analysts, and delivery teams to align environment plans with project requirements.
  • Ensure patching, data integrity, version control, and tooling align closely with live production systems.
  • Track and shape demand for environments based on project forecasts, proactively identifying scheduling conflicts and capacity gaps.
  • Define and monitor KPIs for environment performance, availability, and usage.
  • Embed a culture of accountability, best practice, and service excellence in environment management.
  • Continuously seek out opportunities to improve performance through automation, tooling, and enhanced collaboration.
  • Bring external insights and innovations into the RS testing estate by staying engaged with industry trends and best practices.
  • Ensure environment-related risks and issues are proactively managed, with minimal disruption to critical project milestones.Proactively identify IT service gaps and contribute to improvement efforts and advocate for advance sharing and knowledge of IT processes, frameworks, roles, and capabilities across testing and environment management.

About You:
You are a detail-oriented and proactive environment manager with strong technical and organisational expertise. You have a solid background in managing pre-production test systems, coordinating with delivery teams, and ensuring optimal use of infrastructure to support major change programs.

You thrive on solving complex scheduling and capacity challenges and are known for maintaining a high standard of reliability and consistency across testing platforms. Your communication skills allow you to work seamlessly across multiple functions, from IT to business stakeholders, ensuring test environments meet all project requirements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Extensive experience in managing test environments or similar roles within complex enterprise IT systems.
  • Proven success in managing pre-production or QA environments across a variety of platforms (SAP, Digital, Middleware, etc.).
  • Experience working with global or multi-regional project portfolios and stakeholders.
  • Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and credibly across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to manage scheduling complexities and environment conflicts.
  • Familiarity with test automation, environment orchestration, and monitoring tools.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hybrid environment with competing priorities.
  • Ability to translate technical issues into business risks and solutions.
  • Strong ownership mindset with a continuous improvement approach.
