Principal Cloud Engineer

The Principal Cloud Engineer is a senior level position that will have the highest level of technical competence and the skill set necessary to address all areas of Cloud Engineering, problem resolution, cloud solution architecture and system implementation.

As the Principal Cloud Engineer you will guide and lead cloud architecture and technical implementation across multiple large-scale projects (scrum teams), and mentors all levels of engineers in all areas of cloud and digital engineering. You will be expected to liaise across multiple functions and regions to support the delivery against strategic initiatives.

What you will do

• Responsible for cloud infrastructure; including system design, build and secure operations.
• Design and implement AWS architectures and environments in line with the Cloud Architecture Strategy
• Tune Cloud environments to be cost-effective and optimised
• Design and implement secure auto-scaling strategies
• Optimise performance of AWS environment
• Collaborate in the design and implementation of cloud automation and disaster recovery strategies in line with business requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on migration efforts of on-premise applications to cloud environment.
• Define and promote best practices and guidelines to ensure continuous improvement in the cloud infrastructure environment

A bit about you

• 4+ years demonstratable experience in software development, information systems, or equivalent technical environment, including the development of highly transactional, mission critical applications in heterogeneous environments/architectures for multi-user systems.
• Expert knowledge and experience of AWS Cloud Services, Landing Zones, Control Towers and automation practices within AWS
• Experience of working in a DevOps/Agile focused environment, demonstrating the core principles of collaboration and best-practice.Expert knowledge of the containerised platforms (Hashicorp Nomad, AWS ROSA, Kubernetes, Fargate, Docker)
• Communication - listening and being heard to promote acceptance of strategy
• Expert knowledge of the containerised platforms (Hashicorp Nomad, AWS ROSA, Kubernetes, Fargate, Docker)
• Knowledge of Hashicorp technologies (Vault, Nomad, Consul, Packer)
• Developing standards and high-level architecture designs
• Providing visibility to impediments/risks and support mitigations
• Ability to work across multiple silos within the organisation toward successful outcomes, including an ability to address complex situations into actionable plans
