Sales Engineer

Job Description

  • Use technical expertise and strong selling skills to help customers find solutions to business and technical challenges, adopting a solutions-based selling approach to interactions with customers
  • Directly manages ~30 accounts in a market area with ultimate ownership for account revenue, profitability and market share performance
  • Obtains expert level product and application knowledge for a select group of industrial automation products and supplier brands and uses this knowledge to assist and sell to customers with projects that are simple to highly complex
  • Obtains expert level sales skills focused on consultative, solution-based selling methodologies to maximize customer satisfaction and customer and market potential
  • Develops and maintains a business plan with specific actions around understanding and anticipating customer and market needs, growing current customer share of wallet growth and acquiring new customers and business
  • Manages and communicates current and future performance through frequent reporting, data analysis, forecasting and pipeline tools, and customer feedback with the ability to convey both positive and challenging information
  • Utilizes Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and other applicable internal tools to conduct business and manage sales and business-related activities for maximum visibility and improved performance
  • Develops a solid and trusting relationship with customers and manages communication, coordinates activities and resolves issues either directly or with assistance from internal teams and resources as applicable
  • Partners with and develops strong relationships with local market and national resources for key supplier brands to win current and new business opportunities and solve customer’s challenges

About the role

Responsible for meeting revenue and profitability objectives for a defined geographic sales territory and through the direct ownership and management of a specific set of customer accounts.  Use a combination of technical and sales skills to increase business with current customers and find new business with prospective customers.

 

What we’re looking for

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years’ experience in an Industrial Automation Sales Engineer 
  • Industrial automation product and application expertise
  • Direct customer account sales and management experience
