About the Role
Role Purpose
A Specialist Packer’s primary responsibility is to adhere to customer requirements and to ensure procedures are being followed in any assigned Value-Added/Specialty packing area in Outbound Shipping.
Key Responsibilities
- Examines packaging and contents of items for conformance to company specifications.
- Follows DOT and OSHA requirements on proper labeling of Hazardous materials.
- Ability to read and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Invoices, Bill of lading, shipping statements, along with various other related shipping documents
- Affixes shipping/carrier labels on packages.
- Compares items pulled with customer’s order and other identifying data.
- Reads shipping orders to determine quantity and type of transport needed.
- Understanding of outbound orders (freight and parcel shipments) and process according to set specifications.
- Affix International paperwork required by customs and the carrier.
- Arrange and/or expedite shipping details such as custom declarations, routing, and carrier scheduling and pickups.
- May be trained in other Value-Added shipping areas to support work fluctuation.
- May be designated, according to the work volume to assist in other areas within the shipping department when assigned or needed.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong Written/Verbal communication
- Proficient Computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)
- Strong organizational skills, Attention to details, and problem-solving skills
- Strong reading and writing skills
- Ability to work proficiently, independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Basic math skills
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs., with the ability to engage in team lifts with weights that exceed 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for the entire shift
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Warehouse experience preferred.
- Highly preferred experience in Hazmat, Export, and Freight/LTL shipping within a AS9120 and/or FTZ zoned environment.
- SAP operating knowledge.
