Operations Systems Manager

Job Description

  • Manages over the daily activities of the Control Room Team to ensure workflow in completing scheduled daily activities in operations.
  • Performs periodic 1-2-1 review with direct reports to ensure actions to deliverables are on time.
  • Provides visibility of system performance to stakeholders and identify opportunities for improvement using data insight and analytics.
  • Manages the relationships with other business functions including but not limited to Information Systems, Customer Service and Supply Chain.
  • Ensures that the integration is robust between warehouse systems and ERP as well as other Third-Party solution providers,
  • Ensures system performance of Material Handling Equipment, Control systems and the Warehouse Management systems for completing the daily workload
  • Manages system settings to optimize flow of work through the Warehouse.
  • Maintains and Assigns User roles/ groups with relevant object securities to ensure system and performance integrity.
  • Collaborates with Operations Managers to maintain high Service levels for customer orders.
  • Leverages knowledge of systems and cross-functional processes to deliver continuous improvement and efficiencies for the purpose of enhancing system performance, employee productivity, customer experience, and/or Allied profitability.
  • Assist the Operations team in researching new hardware requirements like Mobile Terminals, Mobile Printers and Terminals.
  • Acts as an Incident Manager and engages with Onsite maintenance technicians to bring issues to resolution in a timely manner.
  • Provides Technical Inputs to Operations IS Systems Integration Manager related to problem solving or system enhancements based on the analysis of the past incidents.
  • Provides training to the Flow Controller role, who monitor daily system workflow, on technical changes that impact business/operational functionality.
  • Plans and Manages QA testing efforts for all software/configuration changes implemented that impact the Warehouse systems, by performing or coordinating the Operations testing, as well as providing post-implementation support.
  • Lead, coach and mentor team members with passion, humility and trust as promoted within the Amazing Leaders framework for RS Group plc.
  • Supports Health & Safety initiatives by promoting safe operating practices while being pro-active in tasks and communications that help reduce safety risks.
  • Ensures high level of internal and external customer satisfaction.

About the role

The role will:

  • Ensure accountability and focus on integrated systems performance by influencing other leaders to focus on right inputs, outputs and actions based on process knowledge and data.
  • Provide operational leadership to direct reports, who are responsible for the daily uptime and data/workflow of the warehouse systems, plus support Integration Technical Manager in solution implementations.
  • Accountable for the development, implementation and day-to-day leadership of controlling the flow of data and work through the efficient and high-performing automated systems, that control the storage, retrieval, picking, consolidation and shipping functions within the DC
  • Build and maintain relationship with onsite maintenance team to maximize uptimes and operational readiness of Warehouse Management (WMS) and Material handling Equipment (MHE) and systems and will act as an incident manager to collaborate with Third Party Supplier Technical support to bring any issues to resolution on an efficient and timely manner.

  • Well-developed cross-functional ability to work with all levels of an operations team.
  • Skilled at Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Be eager and determined to succeed, though safety conscious in all activities undertaken, and own problems and seeing them through to successful completion


  • Familiarity with Modern Distribution centre technologies such as Conveyors, Goods-to-Person picking, Mobile Devices, paperless task management
  • Familiarity with modern DC processes.
