Director of Inside Sales

Job Description

Leadership and Team Management – Lead and manage a group of inside sales managers and professional sellers to deliver sales, profitability, and business objectives.

Strategy and Tactics – Create the strategic plan and execute initiatives focused on growing sales, increasing profitability, and acquiring new customers.  Key to this activity is a deep understanding of the customers, market, industry, risks, and opportunities.

Processes, Systems and Analytics – Develop and standardize a set of sales processes, including the use of CRM and digital systems, data analytics and AI enabled platforms, to create an extremely efficient and effective sales process that maximizes sales, win rates and profit margins while achieving a low cost to serve for these customers. 

Omni-Channel & Digital Transactions – Provide a seamless omni-channel experience for the customers, allowing the customer to work with our sellers and digital capabilities to learn about and purchase products.  Drive customers to utilize our digital, online, self-service capabilities.

Customer – Work closely with customers to understand their needs, provide solutions and solve problems.  This will occur primarily through telephone, email, and virtual sales call activities.  

Supplier Partner – Develop strong and lasting relationships with supplier partners at all levels of the organization to help provide powerful solutions options for our customers.

Performance Management – Manage the team using metrics, KPIs, coaching, etc. to ensure the team and individuals operate at a high-performance level.  This includes assessing performance, recommending specific training and development activities, etc.

Product and Service Solutions – Help the team create product and service solutions to win business with a focus on solving problems and adding value for the customer.  This requires a deep understanding of the customer’s challenges, our product and service offering and the solution we can provide. 

Team Interaction – Works closely with the VP of Sales, Sales Team and business partners including Marketing, Finance, Product and Supplier Management and Operations to develop and execute the strategic plan and tactical initiatives to achieve goals and objectives.

Executive Sales Leadership Team – Serve as a member of the Executive Sales Leadership Team, providing information, insight and recommendations for their area of responsibility along with the broader sales function.  Must relentlessly pursue best practices and increased knowledge to help advance the professionalism and effectiveness of the entire sales group.

About the role

This role manages the Inside Sales Group to achieve sales, profitability, and business objectives by ensuring we have a strong focus on the customer, excellent partnership with our suppliers, great people leadership and talent development, robust strategy creation and tactical execution, and ongoing process and continuous improvement activities. 

The Inside Sales Group is a large and growing, centralized professional sales team consisting of specialized selling groups covering several different customers segments. This includes an Inside Business Development Team focused on acquiring and then initially growing new customers plus multiple Inside Sales Teams focused on growing smaller, standard accounts and serving the needs of complex customers like Government and International accounts.

Central to the success of the team is the focus on providing customers with real and tangible solutions using a value-based selling methodology plus strong engagement with our supplier partners and internal support teams. A proactive approach to sales activities, the use of best practice selling techniques, adoption of leading-edge sales technologies, and ongoing coaching and talent development provides the foundation for success today and future growth in the coming years.

Direct reports include multiple Inside Sales Managers and a Program Manager.  Indirect reports include various inside sales professionals focused on different customers segments including new business acquisition, existing, and speciality accounts. 

 

What we’re looking for

Requires 8-10 years of experience in a large, high-volume, inside sales organization.  Ideal candidate will have deep experience and understanding of best practices and management of a professional, inside selling group. Preference given for a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business or a related field.  MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
