The Applications Architect defines the relationships, flow and implementation of business processes/activities/functions, information, applications, data and technology in the enterprise and the transitional process necessary for implementing technology. The Applications Architect will have a strong understanding of the ERP business process/system platforms and the integration across multiple satellite applications. This role will provide leadership for application/cloud architecture plans, technology design and lifecycle and information integrity by promoting best practices through Enterprise Architecture processes. This role will assist and mentor business analysts and developers with application projects when required to ensure that system solutions meet the business requirements. This position will work within the Allied Technology team. 


The Applications Architect role includes the following but is not limited to: 

  • Provide technical support to team members and peers by collaborating with others; articulating ideas and viewpoints to management; driving the resolution of issues; and holding self and team accountable for results.
  • Assesses or develops architectural approaches and solutions, participates, or leads architectural reviews and recommends how to proceed with the applications and/or infrastructure (replace, retire, maintain, etc.).
  • Provides leadership and support to projects, including architecture planning, execution, and delivery of commitments.
  • Leads architecture design to integrate systems (e.g., hardware investments, application selection, new software development, data model, metadata structures, vendor solution or significant configuration), across site or regional projects and programs with high systems availability.
  • Leads technology evaluation and makes recommendations to IS and Business Partners.
  • Develops and maintains current and planned state of architecture blueprints.
  • Provides input for Enterprise Technology and Application Rationalization activities.
  • Conducts the analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the Enterprise Architecture.
  • Develops and aligns the IS roadmaps (e.g., upgrades, retirement, new technology, security compliance, etc.,) with the IS and Business strategy.
  • Establishes system performance targets and ensures architecture meets objectives (e.g., system performance, recovery point objectives, recovery time objectives).
  • Works with business partners to ensure global design is followed, ensure feasibility of proposed solution, ensure collaboration with other team members on impacted areas, validate completeness of documentation and ensure appropriate performance and quality testing is followed.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of all defined system specifications for changes in system and/or business requirements, or system configurations. Prepare applications documentation such as flowcharts and diagrams, to illustrate sequence of steps programs must follow and to describe logical operations involved. Follow the Allied systems change management process and procedure.
  • Work with Business Analyst Team to develop detailed plans for system validations (Unit testing, Integrations testing and UAT). 


Requirements:  The skills, experience, and knowledge required to be considered for this position includes the following: 

  • 4 plus years of experience in Systems Architect or equivalent role.
  • 3 plus years of applicable business experience in an industrial distribution, manufacturing, or relevant environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or equivalent career.
  • Have a broad and extensive understanding of the overall ERP Processes. Strong business acumen and an understanding of the end-to-end business processes (Order to Cash, Whole Sales & Distribution).  
  • Certified level of knowledge in SAP Integration tools, Salesforce, MS SQL, Middleware and Web components.
  • Deep expertise in two or more areas including software engineering, security, data integration, data management, network, database, servers, storage, collaboration, or other technical areas.
  • Strong ability to diagnose application problems quickly and develop effective solutions and ability to create Functional/Technical Specifications based on end user's requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills, with proven experience prioritizing work 
  • Flexibility: able to adapt to different people and work assignments 
  • Ability to communicate openly both verbally and in writing to effectively work with varying levels of management.
  • Strong interpersonal and project/time management skills 
  • Solid customer service and demonstrated team-oriented mind-set.
  • A strong focus on detail and accuracy of work and analytical skills
