Job Description –

 

As a Performance Engineer, you will advocate performance across the organisation throughout our digital transformation to micro-services in the cloud – and beyond.

You will be a SME in performance engineering and your role will encompass the continuous improvement of our performance engineering strategy and tooling (industry best practice techniques and designs), whilst educating and supporting the engineering teams in meeting their delivery targets.

Within this position, you will also be running end-to-end performance tests within an Agile environment, providing innovative solutions to streamline current processes using different technologies within the business and the performance engineering team. You will ensure successful integration of performance testing within the teams’ development lifecycle, while implementing best practices for performance engineering.

Sitting in the performance engineering practice (outside the delivery teams), you will be given free rein to positively impact the Performance Engineering process within an environment that supports and rewards innovation and creativity. Working alongside the other engineering practices consisting of DevOps, application security and QA engineers, we educate, enable, and empower each delivery team to produce consistently high-quality and performant products as we transform to the cloud.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Evangelising the importance of performance engineering across the Agile teams in a DevOps environment
  • Advising and training Agile Teams on the end-to-end performance engineering process, from NFR gathering to test execution and analysis
  • Working to industry standard best practices and driving continuous improvements
  • Supporting the continued improvement and adoption of the Performance Engineering Strategy
  • Utilising test tools for performance test script writing, execution, and analysis

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience as a dedicated performance engineer
  • Hands-on experience using industry-wide performance testing tools, including JMeter and Microfocus LoadRunner
  • Performance testing web applications and APIs
  • Performance testing cloud-based solutions
  • Client-Side Performance Testing
  • Experience setting up performance tests from requirements gathering, creating realistic scripts and scenarios, to test reporting
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic frameworks for end-to-end performance engineering
  • Experience coaching engineers on performance engineering best practices
  • Experience performance testing within in a CI Pipeline
  • Ability to coordinate test runs which require multi-department co-operation
  • Familiarity with performance testing within a mixed architecture (On-Premise and Cloud)
  • Familiarity with a range of monitoring tools, including DataDog
  • Familiarity with an object-oriented programming language
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
