You could say that in this role you will be the freight bender, an all powerful member of the transport team who is the master of Road, Sea, and Air. Your domain will be our brilliant DC in Corby and without your knowledge and skills RS’s ability to be a global powerhouse in our industry won’t exist. 

 

As one of you key members in the team you will be personally responsible for ensuring that our customers get what they need, wherever they are in the world and by the most effective method. 

 

Our goal is to be the first choice for all our customers needs and we can’t do that with you being able to control all things freight. 

 

What will you be doing? 

 

As they freight manager you will have management of all of the movements of freight out of our DC’s (primarily in the UK & Germany) all around the globe, as well as oversight of freight movements in Asia & Pacific region.  

Primarily the freight manager will manage the relationships of our 3PLS and other suppliers to ensure that we are receiving the best possible service and are able to support our customers in the best way possible.  

 

A key part of your role will be reporting and using data to ensure we are identifying hot spots before they become issues. With this data you will be empowered to make decisions relating to: 

 

  • Costs 

  • Delivery on time to promise 

  • Net Promotor Score 

  • CO2 emissions relating to transport  

 

What do I need to be successful? 

 

The freight manager will need to be an excellent people person, not a people pleaser but certainly someone who builds relationships quickly and easily. You will also need to be the kind of person who can make tough decisions and have difficult conversations when needed. 

 

Other than that we are looking for: 

 

  • Experience in a freight or Transport role with a European or Global remit. 

  • Knowledge of transport planning  

  • Knowledge of freight forwarding 

  • Excellent communication skills 

  • Account management and relationship management skills 

  • Line Management and people development knowledge.
