Strategic Project Manager
Job Description
- Responsible for the end-to-end PMO management (planning, delivery, monitoring, control and closure) of projects with focus on business change – ensuring delivery to agreed scope, time, cost, quality and benefits.
- Provide leadership to, and facilitate the work of, cross-functional project teams. Ensure team members remain motivated and committed to the project objectives whilst balancing the demands of any Business As Usual (BAU) commitments.
- Translate the approved Project Definition into a workable plan with an agreed budget and accountable for managing the project budget throughout the project lifecycle.
- Agree the appropriate governance approach and ensure it is applied to the project. Plan and schedule quality reviews, ensuring the relevant people attend, project deliverables are produced on time to the required standard, and any corrective actions addressed.
- Produce a Resource Plan and work with the appropriate Business Managers to implement.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into project management tools and applications.
- Where required, facilitate making trade off decisions within the project between scope, time, cost and quality. Ensure any significant changes are subject to the change control process.
- Engage fully across the business to ensure overall project success and the commercial goals are being achieved – provide regular project updates, escalate issues and concerns.
- Identify and manage inter-project dependencies, ensuring visibility, with plans to resolve, and manage through with all relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure all risks and issues are collected, analysed, and where necessary mitigated or escalated.
- Engage fully with the relevant project Sponsor and Business Owner. Influence and manage stakeholder expectations by monitoring progress against the plan and issuing regular communications, escalating problems and issues that impact scope, time, cost, quality and benefits in a timely manner.
- Manage external delivery partners and contractors when required.
- Contribute to the delivery of RS America’s strategic goals by providing coaching and support to staff external to the team in (PMO) Project Management skills & techniques.
- Engage the support and guidance of Project Management colleagues across the Group to facilitate appropriate decision making.

About the role
As a member of the Strategic Change Team, the role will be responsible for delivering change and related business outcomes across multiple business functions and regions.
- Ensure required analysis and discovery is performed, and functional and technical design discussions are effectively conducted.
- Administer project governance, through effective planning and execution, tracking to key project deadlines/milestones.
- Design, build, and implement solutions transforming (PMO) project management processes and tools to support a continuously evolving delivery team.
What we’re looking for
Essential:
- Proven Project Management experience leading and managing multiple projects and stakeholders with a track record of delivering business change to achieve outcomes and benefits
- Experience of working in the relevant business environment (Digital, Supply Chain, Distribution, Finance, Sales), within software driven environment.
- Hands-on delivery experience, using established project tools and techniques, for
- Strong team facilitation skills, with the ability to motivate people, and remain calm during periods of pressure
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Talent for building positive relationships at all organizational levels, across different work functions and cultures
- Able to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels of the Business and to various stakeholder groups, both in writing and verbally
- Ability to challenge constructively and influence others, and quickly establish trust, credibility, and rapport
- Demonstrate innovative and creative thinking capabilities and possess good troubleshooting skills
- High level of professionalism, energy and passion, with a sense of urgency to "make things happen"
Desirable:
- Experience of working in a complex project environment for a Global organization
- Degree level education or equivalent
- Certified Project Management and/or Change Management qualifications
- Experience of negotiating with and managing 3rd parties
