Product Portfolio Manager

Job Description

  • Driving technology portfolio expansion by adding new products to our offer.
  • Determining which products added should be stocked utilizing technology knowledge and data analysis tools to drive decisions. 
  • Product category growth including sales generation and gross margin.
  • Driving new supplier acquisition for the product category in conjunction with the product category team. 
  • Ensuring that product data held in the system is relevant and accurate.
  • Understanding existing portfolio landscape and dynamics and analysing competitor product positioning to uncover opportunities for expansion.

Remote/Office Location/Hybrid: Hybrid (80% remote/20% in office)

About the role

The Product Portfolio Manager will focus on building and accelerating the development, evaluation and execution of product expansion opportunities with existing and new suppliers in the Electrical & Electronic category. The Electrical & Electronic category includes products like connectors, passive components, wire & cable, cable management and board level test & measurement with brands including 3M, Amphenol, Belden, Vishay, Keysight Technologies and Hubbell Wiring Devices. There is a high level of product expertise required and the candidate must have the ability to analyse internal and external information in order to determine the performance of products. Experience with these technologies and/or brands is a plus.  This individual will work synergistically with Product Director, Category Manager and Supplier Managers to make portfolio additions in order to meet growth and margin expectations.


The Product Portfolio Manager will be a driving force to build and grow this category through the addition of new suppliers and the expansion of our offer with current suppliers and new suppliers in this space.  Performance metrics will include:

  • Success of products selected to be added to the product offer, stocked and non-stocked, in terms of traffic and revenue generated
  • Revenue generated and attachment rate of products selected to be stocked
  • Product category growth including margin and sales generation.


What we’re looking for


  • Strong analytic and decision-making skills utilizing multiple data points and Excel
  • Strong analytic skills utilizing Excel
  • Effective communication skills – verbal, written and listening
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external stakeholders including customers and suppliers.
  • Strong teamwork and organizational skills
  • Knows how to set priorities and can quickly zero in on what is critical
  • Proficient in Microsoft word
  • Strong interpersonal skills and be able to build effective relationships
  • Three to five years of Industrial distribution experience in similar role. Preference given for a four-year degree in Businesses or related field but not necessary.  
  • Requires basic math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.



  • Knowledge of the specific product technology is HIGHLY desirable
  • Supplier and technology obsessed attitude with a constant desire to learn more.
  • Experience with Power BI
  • Experience with Access
  • Presentation ability in front of the Supplier management team. Suppliers, and other stakeholders in the business.
