Junior Systems Administrator

Job Description

  • Monitor current compliance of all which include but are not limited to security agents, patching agents, and asset management agents across all end-user platforms.
  • Implement corrective action plans for non-compliant end-user platforms as necessary ensuring endpoints are patched and meet security compliance policies.
  • Track, plan and implement life-cycle management initiatives on end-user devices ensuring equipment is supported and provides a quality technology experience for business users.
  • Manage deployment and imaging process for end-user devices using policy profiles and deployment tools such as Intune and PDQ Deploy.
  • Provide routine inventory reports of end-user assets, software and licenses to management and the Security Compliance Team.
  • Provide tier 2 support for Help Desk escalated incidents as needed.
  • Perform administration tasks within Active Directory as needed, such as user account creation and security group changes.
  • Perform administration tasks within Office 365 and Azure
  • Analyse incident reports and maintain close relationship with Help Desk staff to identify patterns or trends in support incidents and provide potential strategies to reduce technology incidents.
  • Stay apprised of policy and technology changes performed by the Technology Operation teams and identify potential risks and implications to end-user platforms.
  • Identify and provide recommendations for policy and technology changes to improve end-user technology experience.
  • Establish and maintain documentation of all related knowledge areas and procedures for work performed in execution of duties. 
  • Assist with implementations of security policies to end-user devices as requested by the Security Compliance Team.
  • Aid and perform additional administration tasks with the guidance of more experienced administrators for projects and initiatives performed by the Technology Operation teams.

About the role

The role of the Junior Systems Administrator will serve as an escalation point for Allied’s Help Desk and work closely with the Infrastructure and Technical Services team. The Junior Systems Administrator will demonstrate high levels of customer service by possessing effective communication, technical proficiency, troubleshooting skills and an emphasis on overall service delivery as a subject matter expert in end point management. The Junior Systems Administrator’s key role is maintaining end user devices including laptops, desktops, printers, mobile devices, and peripherals by imaging, patching, and updating all these devices to ensure a strong compliance. The Junior System Administrator will also take on additional Help Desk Projects to support business operations and liaise between the Help Desk and Technical Services team to drive continuous improvement for end-user experience. The Junior System Administrator will also serve as a project resource for the Technical Services Team and perform system administration tasks related to Active Directory User management, security and permission management, and email administration. 


What we’re looking for


  • 3+ years’ experience in an IT support related role, preferred systems administration
  • ** Exceptions for experience requirements can be made based on certifications and/or formal education.
  • One or more of the relevant certifications listed below
    • Certification MS 365 Modern Desktop Administrator or 2+ year experience and proficiency in desktop administration tasks and best practices
    • Certification Network+ or other network certification or 1+ year experience with network operations
    • Certification Security+ or 1+ year experience with security operations
  • Interest in structured approaches to system configuration and administration
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and motivation to advance
  • Understanding of User Directory Services, Active Directory preferred
  • Understanding of Security controls and best practices
  • Understanding of Patch Management processes such as Windows Updates
  • Familiarity with basic system administration tools and processes


  • College degree or equivalent experience in an IT related function
  • Familiarity with virtualized environments, VMware preferred
  • Understanding of Layer 3 Routing and VLANs
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure administration

Acquire and Maintain:

  • Certification MS 365 Modern Desktop Administrator
  • Acquire and maintain at least 3 industry standard certifications relevant to this position
