Core Purpose of My Role & What decisions I’m empowered to make
The Director of Web Development will lead our efforts to build and deliver rapid improvements to our web applications to meet the needs of our customers. Using Scrum and DevOps, this leader will guide, mentor and coach the team to high performance in a continuous integration and continuous delivery environment. 

 

The best candidate will have deep experience with a high transaction ecommerce website, with the technical knowledge to help the team work through complex architectural decisions to build a highly available, secure and reliable website using best practices in web application development.

 

They will be well versed in the discipline of lean software development, understanding how to eliminate waste, reduce cycle times, remove bottlenecks and improve flow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development of web applications for both internal and external users
  • Coaches and mentors the team on how to develop web applications efficiently and effectively, using the core principles of Scrum and DevOps
  • In addition to development, responsible for QA, deployment and post-deployment operations
  • Provides thought leadership within the business on how to approach technical challenges and how to develop the necessary software architecture to build world class systems
  • Oversees the deployment pipeline to ensure it is automated, efficient and effective for continuous delivery
  • Ensures that all applications adhere to security and PCI requirements
  • Works closely with the Technology team to identify and address infrastructure needs necessary to support web applications
  • Works closely with the Technology team on application integration between web applications, ERP, and critical third-party applications 
  • Collaborates with the Marketing leadership team as well as other internal business partners to help set priorities for development projects and advise on resource requirements as necessary
  • Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments
  • Works closely with the Digital Product team to assess requirements, establish resource needs, develop timelines and ultimately implement new features and enhancements to web applications
  • Engages with global business partners to identify opportunities to implement best practice
  • Develops the necessary metrics to measure quality, uptime and productivity of the team
  • Responsible for overseeing web application uptime and support

 

About You

Useful experience and knowledge

  • B.S. degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ total years of experience with web application development, C#/ASP.NET/JavaScript Frameworks experience preferred
  • 10+ years of experience working with high transaction ecommerce websites
  • 6+ years of professional experience with database systems
  • Experience with a variety of DevOps tools including Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, Docker, Dynatrace, Datadog, and SEQ 
  • Experience with Azure DevOps
  • Excellent understanding of PCI compliance requirements
  • Solid understanding of web architecture and best practices
  • Expert knowledge of Microservices, event driven architecture, and Serverless computing, and how to best utilize them in an enterprise ecommerce application
  • Solid understanding of cloud-based deployment, infrastructure as code, and cloud native applications architecture. AWS experience preferred.
