This role will support that journey by creating, executing and leading a compelling strategy for data governance and quality and by helping to shape our future in this space, leading by example, sharing the mission and supporting the new culture. 


We are looking for a hands-on expert and team leader to define, embed and continually evolve the group wide approach to practical, pragmatic data governance & quality, ensuring that colleagues across our business understand the quality, accuracy and consistency of data used in all business processes, and that as a business we treat data responsibly and ethically.


About the role

  • You will join as a leader within the group’s D&A Core Data Management function, accountable for a comprehensive data governance & quality strategy, one that spans multiple business units to deliver against Group objectives. 
  • Set the direction of an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices, across the business to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and management, working with all key functions.  
  • Acting as a key partner to the Head of Data Management and CDAO in defining and implementing the data governance & quality strategy. 
  • You will lead a central team of functional experts in data governance and data quality, working with data stewards across the wider business and will focus on setting the policies, standards, governance & control frameworks that bring transparency and trust to the group’s data. 
  • You will be providing strategic direction, coaching, performance management, mentoring and guidance to colleagues across the Data and Analytics team and through relationships with Data Stewards and colleagues across the business.  
  • Leading and being accountable for the technological choices, tools and business processes used to ensure consistent data governance & quality methods and approaches are deployed across the group.  
  • You will be the data custodian and work with businesses and IT to fix data issues at source system and process level across the data lifecycle, resolving issues escalated from data governance representatives across the businesses 


What we’re looking for

  • Experience working in an industrial context, with a deep understanding of all aspects of data governance, including data quality management, metadata management and tools, data architecture and technology. 
  • Experience of developing data governance strategies and road maps, with an evidenced background of having overseen effective adoption into business processes.  
  • Experience in defining, designing, and implementing policies, standards, guidelines, tools, metrics and standards for data management and governance framework. 
  • Pragmatic and practical with ability to tailor principles and standards to appropriate situations and audiences. 
  • Exceptional communication, for example conveying information to diverse audiences in a way that is easily understood and actionable.  
  • Creative thinking, for example framing new ways of thinking about data governance to drive adoption.  
  • Have knowledge and experience of data governance tool implementation (e.g. Collibra, Informatica, Atation etc.) and maintenance  
  • Extensive experience of data governance, data cataloguing, data lineage and master and meta data management.
