The Delivery Manager is a critical role in delivering our challenging digital transformation agenda. This is a permanent role.


The purpose of this role is to manage a team of Scrum Masters and deliver change across our Digital and Customer systems, creating a digital delivery roadmap, costed and resourced to maximise pace and quality of execution supporting ROI on investments to drive conversion, sales and margin benefits. This includes identifying opportunities, creating estimates to support business cases and working with stakeholders across multiple teams, UX and Agile development & IT teams. Team size will vary depending on projects and delivery requirements but initially 3 - 4 Direct Reports both contract and permanent resources.

The main focus of the role is to work within the Digital Engineering Team for Technology & Digital Function as Delivery Manager and lead a team of Scrum Masters (3- 8 people) where you will continually improve the ways of working and environment in order that the team/s can perform at their best to deliver on time, on budget and quality to the customer.


You should have excellent knowledge of the scrum framework, with all its artifacts and techniques, but be able to work across multiple disciplines such as waterfall and Kanban as required to get the work delivered.

You’ll also need the ability to coordinate people and projects (occasionally facilitating 3rd parties) with your mind set on deliverables. If you’re a strong communicator, a capable leader and you are invested in Agile frameworks, we’d like to meet you.


Main responsibilities are:

  • Manage a team of Scrum Masters for Digital Delivery.
  • Work with Portfolio teams and PMOs to ensure dependency, priority and scheduling is managed.
  • Ensure co-ordination of sprints, retrospective meetings and daily stand-ups
  • Coach team members in Agile frameworks as needed
  • Facilitate internal communication and effective collaboration including dependencies and critical path actions and bottlenecks.
  • Be the point of contact for external delivery communications (e.g. from customers or stakeholders)
  • Delivery escalation and resolver for conflicts and remove obstacles that occur between engineering teams and IT Heads of function.
  • Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards
  • Guide development teams to higher scrum maturity
  • Help build a productive environment where team members ‘own’ the delivery and enjoy working on it


Also, we want you to be responsible for motivating the delivery and engineering teams to achieve a high level of performance and quality in line with sprints and delivery standards. You will also be responsible for software delivery using agile methods in a fast-paced environment that may cross multiple business divisions. As well as the technical aspects of the role you will also be expected to manage your team on a daily basis or as required; assist in team development while holding broader accountable for scrum master commitments, removing roadblocks to their work; leveraging organisational resources to improve capacity for project delivery work; responsibility for ensuring team members track their time using the appropriate in-house system; and mentoring and developing team members. You will be part of the wider IT Digital Delivery function where you will drive initiatives in line with our purpose to continually improve agility across the Technology department and the wider enterprise.



  • Define and drive the end to end delivery of solutions for Digital Engineering and Technology.
  • Management of Priority, schedule and dependencies within the functional delivery areas and projects.
  • Support cost, resource and planning view across the engineering and delivery functions.   
  • Support the Scrum Masters so they can be focussed on achieving their delivery goals.
  • Ensure impediments are anticipated, addressed, owned & resolved by the team or yourself after escalation to ensure dependencies and critical path are managed.
  • Ensure the sprint goals are delivered and the Definition of Done & Definition of Ready are successfully met across sprints.
  • Drive for a level of self-organisation and autonomy within the team, creating an empowered function.
  • Identify actual or emerging anti-patterns and support the team to remove or avoid. Be accountable for the direct intervention and appropriate escalation where needed.
  • Create the metrics needed to be able to improve the ways of working including the sprint planning estimation, the capacity of the team


Must Have

  • Demonstrable experience leading Multiple Scrum teams.
  • Certified Scrum Master or equivalent Kanban accreditation e.g. Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM) or Professional Scrum Master Level 2 (PSM2). Significant experience of being a Scrum Master / Agile Team Lead. 
  • Interpersonal & relationship building skills, able to work at all levels of the organisation, across functions, geographies and cultures 
  • Worked as a team leader within or on a transformation agenda.
  • Demonstrable experience of skilled and compelling delivery leadership using various techniques in the context of a team or other groups within an organisation,
  • Demonstrable experience in a multi-scrum environment or managing across multiple teams / dependencies.
  • Working in leadership role across a portfolio of delivery up to £5M
